Our Founder

Lieutenant General George W. Smith Jr., USMC (Ret.), served over 38 years as a Marine Corps officer, including 12 years as a General Officer. His leadership experience included multiple combat deployments in command in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was personally selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps as the Commanding Officer of The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. At this premier leadership institution that is not replicated anywhere in the U.S. military, he was charged with the leadership development of every newly commissioned Marine officer by instilling leadership fundamentals that have stood the test of time under the most challenging conditions. His service as a General Officer included tours as the Director of Strategy and Plans for U.S. Central Command and as the Senior Military Assistant to three Secretaries of Defense. He concluded his nearly four decades as a Marine as the Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force, the largest warfighting command in the Marine Corps. BROADSWORD was LtGen Smith’s call sign when he commanded 1st Force Reconnaissance Company over two deployments to Iraq. Today, he serves on multiple publicly traded and non-profit boards.
